On September 22, 2025, GST reforms will be implemented, eliminating the 12-28% tax slabs. Only the 5-18% slabs will remain. PM Narendra Modi highlighted the benefits of these GST reforms during his national address on Sunday, stating that from the first day of Navratri, 99% of items will fall into the 5% slab, thus becoming cheaper. This will increase your savings and allow you to purchase your desired items easily. India’s poor, middle class, youth, farmers, and women will greatly benefit from this.

The GST Savings Festival Starts Tomorrow

Prime Minister Modi expressed that tomorrow marks the beginning of Navratri, a festival worshipping strength. From the first day, the nation takes another crucial and significant step toward the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign. As the sun rises on September 22, GST reforms will commence, heralding the start of a GST savings festival. This change will increase your savings and enable easy purchasing of your favorite items.

He acknowledged that the next-generation GST reform will benefit everyone, from the poor and middle class to youth, farmers, women, shopkeepers, and entrepreneurs. Everyone's celebrations during the festive season will be sweeter. Prime Minister Modi assured that this change will enhance the joy of every family in the country. These reforms will propel India’s growth story forward, making essential purchases affordable and business and investment more attractive. Additionally, they will ensure that every state progresses equally.

99% of Everyday Items Will Become Cheaper

Before the GST slab and rate changes take effect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, explaining that only two GST slabs, 5% and 18%, will remain. Items in the 12% and 28% categories will merge into these two, resulting in cost reductions. PM Modi indicated that most everyday essentials will become cheaper, while many necessary products, from food to medicine, will either be exempt from tax or fall under the 5% tax bracket.

According to the Prime Minister, 99% of commonly used items will become more affordable as they all fit into the 5% bracket. He described this reform as a double blessing for the poor, middle class, and new middle class.

The Nation Was Once Ensnared in Numerous Taxes

Recalling the transformation post-GST implementation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that when India shifted towards GST in 2017, it marked the end of an old era and the start of creating a new one. Before this, both the populace and businesses were tangled in a web of varying taxes, from sales tax to excise duty. Now, significant next-generation GST reforms are set to be enforced from the first day of Navratri tomorrow.
