Iranian President Masud Pejeshkian strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. During a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
On April 22, terrorists attacked tourists in the picturesque Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, claiming the lives of 26 people. This brutal assault marks one of the most dreadful events in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, where 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred.
Iranian President Reaches Out to PM Modi
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted on X, 'Iranian President Masud Pejeshkian called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir and offered condolences to those affected.' During the conversation, both leaders agreed that terrorism can never be justified under any circumstances.
'No Place for Terrorism'
The Foreign Ministry highlighted, 'The two leaders agreed that such terrorist acts cannot be justified in any manner, and those who have faith in humanity should unite in the fight against terrorism.'
The Iranian embassy in India also shared a post on X, emphasizing the shared commitment of both nations against terrorism and enhancing regional peace through cooperation. President Pejeshkian expressed profound sorrow over the attack and showed solidarity with India in combating terrorism.
PM Modi Expresses Gratitude for Iran's Support
In response, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his gratitude for Iran's support, affirming that New Delhi aligns with Tehran's belief in regional cooperation and unity as crucial elements in the global fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Modi also lauded Iran's constructive role in fostering regional stability and reiterated support for diplomatic efforts to resolve international conflicts, including tensions between Iran and the United States.
