The infamous wolves in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, continue to ravage the community. These cunning predators have claimed nine lives and injured dozens. According to the forest department, only one lame wolf remains as the other five have been captured. Yet, in the Mahsi region, villagers made a new astonishing claim, leaving everyone on edge.

News agencies report that some villagers have spotted a new wolf pack, including the menacing 'Lame Wolf'. Following the capture of five man-eating wolves, the community had begun to feel safe, but this revelation has reignited their fears. However, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ajit Pratap Singh dismissed this claim, asserting that confirmation would only come after an investigation.

The DFO also raised concerns that even if this new pack isn't predatory, attempting to capture them could provoke them to attack humans in retaliation, leading to a new set of problems.

Earlier, a pack of six wolves had terrorized multiple villages in Bahraich, killing nine people, including seven children, since mid-July and injuring over twenty. While five were captured under ‘Operation Wolf’, efforts are still ongoing to capture the sixth wolf.

Villagers' Shocking Claim

Villagers allege that on Wednesday evening, four wolves were seen near BJP MLC Padmasen Chaudhary's farmhouse in Mangla village, just five kilometers from Sisaiya Churamani, the hardest-hit area by wolf attacks.

In a conversation with a news agency, MLC Padmasen Chaudhary stated, “Around 4 PM, villagers saw a pack of four wolves, one of them lame, in my farm’s mango orchard. The area is known for wolf habitats. Due to rising river levels and rain, wild animals frequently venture out.”

Forest Department Skeptical

Nonetheless, the DFO expressed doubt about new predatory wolves in the new pack. He mentioned reports of sightings in some villages in the Ramgaon area within Mahsi but noted that no confirmation has been made. Precautionary patrolling has been increased.

According to the DFO, an officer was dispatched to the site, discovering wolf tracks. However, from their activities, it doesn’t appear there is a man-eating wolf among them. We’re closely monitoring the claimed sighting area. Only after thorough investigation can we determine the nature of these wolves,” he concluded.
