Medical Team to Visit Farmer Leader Dallewal Suffers Accident, Four Doctors Injured

According to officials, a medical team was sent to the Kahanuri Border protest site for farmer leader Dallewal. The 70-year-old Dallewal has been fasting at the Kahanuri Border to press the Central Government for a month.

Four doctors out of a six-member medical team heading to Kahanuri were injured on Wednesday after their vehicle was struck by a car. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, on a hunger strike in Kahanuri, was the intended destination of their visit. Officials detailed the incident, occurring near Mavikala village.

Officials reported that the team was dispatched to check on farmer leader Dallewal at the Kahanuri Border protest site. The 70-year-old leader has been protesting through a hunger strike at the Kahanuri Border for a month, demanding legal guarantees on MSP, among other farmer demands from the Central Government.

Doctors' Team Heading to Assess Dallewal's Condition

A team of five doctors from the NGO 'River Heart Association' described Dallewal's condition as 'serious'. Meanwhile, a government doctors' team was on its way to Kahanuri. Dashcam footage from behind the government medical team's SUV shows the SUV was attempting to overtake a truck when the collision with the doctors' vehicle occurred.

Dr. Sanjeev Arora, senior medical officer of Samana, mentioned that a team of four specialist doctors from Rajendra Hospital in Patiala, along with a pharmacist and driver, were injured when their vehicle was struck by an SUV.

Dallewal on Hunger Strike for 30 Days

He disclosed that they are currently receiving treatment at Rajendra Hospital, and fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. He further revealed the Punjab government and the Patiala district administration, in compliance with Supreme Court directives, are actively monitoring the situation at the Kahanuri Border as Dallewal's hunger strike has reached 30 days.

Punjab Government Sets Up Temporary Hospital at Border

Notably, the Punjab Government established a temporary hospital near the Kahanuri protest site to monitor Dallewal's health around the clock and to provide medical assistance in any emergency.

On Friday, the Supreme Court left it to Punjab government officials and doctors to decide on hospitalizing farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on an indefinite hunger strike.
