The Madhya Pradesh government has made a historic decision benefiting families displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Project. The government will cover the stamp duty and registration fees for residential plots allocated to these families. In addition, new irrigation projects for the districts of Maihar and Katni have received administrative approval.
In fact, the Madhya Pradesh government has approved free registration of residential plots allocated to over 25,600 families affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River in neighboring Gujarat. This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Under this decision, the registration fees and stamp duty payable will be covered by the Narmada Valley Development Authority in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
This initiative will benefit more than 25,600 families displaced due to the project, residing in the districts of Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, and Dhar in Madhya Pradesh.
As a result of the dam in Gujarat, certain areas of these districts in MP have been submerged. This decision is estimated to place a financial burden of ₹600 crores on the government.
The Cabinet has approved two major irrigation projects worth ₹620.65 crore.
The first is the Barhi Micro Lift Irrigation Project, which will cost ₹566.92 crore and will irrigate 20,000 hectares of land in 27 villages of the Barhi and Vijayraghavgarh tehsils.
The second is the Dhanwahi Micro Pressure Irrigation Project (Maihar-Katni), which will benefit 2,810 farmers across 9 villages and irrigate 3,500 hectares at a cost of ₹53.73 crore.
