Former JD(U) president and prominent leader Lalan Singh encountered stiff resistance from locals in his Munger constituency. Despite being part of the NDA, BJP activists demanded a five-year performance report from the incumbent MP, which agitated Singh, leading him to extricate himself from the situation and leave.
At a public meeting, locals confronted Lalan Singh asking him to account for his five-year tenure before they would cast their votes. A young man in the crowd questioned Singh about his absence during the pandemic, to which Singh responded that movement restrictions made it challenging to be present, and then claimed to have initiated fogging operations throughout Munger city thereafter.
Voting for the Munger Lok Sabha constituency is slated for May 13. In the 2019 general elections, there was a direct contest between Lalan Singh and Neelam Devi, wife of Anant Singh. At the time, Singh was the JD(U) candidate, while Neelam Devi represented Congress. Currently, the Munger seat presents a challenge for Singh, also given that Lalu Yadav has fielded Ashok Mahato's wife, a notorious gangster-turned-politician.
