The notorious murder case of businesswoman Ekta Gupta by gym trainer Vimal in Kanpur had barely died down when news of another trainer's misconduct emerged. Just like in Ekta's murder case, police negligence has been uncovered once again. It was only when the High Court took notice of the victim's complaint that the police sprang into action.
In this incident, nearly one and a half years ago, a case was filed against a gym trainer named Arjun Singh but he wasn't arrested. The High Court has now taken note of this delay, demanding the Kanpur Police Commissioner submit an affidavit. Following the court's order, the police quickly arrested the accused.
This case is centered on a BA student residing in the Fazalganj area of Kanpur. According to the victim, three years ago when she was in the 11th grade and a member of a local gym, she crossed paths with trainer Arjun Singh, who requested her phone number. When she refused, he bribed the gym owner with 20,000 rupees for her number and began pressuring her to meet him.
The victim shared that trainer Arjun started giving her a sedative under the guise of a protein shake, to which she became addicted. He later injected her with a substance typically used in horse racing. Once she was intoxicated and unconscious, he misbehaved with her and threatened to release a video.
The victim revealed that Arjun held her hostage for several months and even provoked her towards suicide to fabricate such a case. When her parents attempted to report it to the police, their concerns were dismissed. With the help of neighbors, her family managed to rescue her and file a complaint. Despite this, Arjun was not arrested because he is the son of an influential person.
After the case gained media attention, the police transferred the investigation to Swaroop Nagar station but still took no action against Arjun. Frustrated by police negligence and delay, the victim turned to the High Court. Following the strict orders of the court, a charge sheet was filed, and ultimately on Monday, Arjun Singh was arrested by the police.
