The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship displayed commendable bravery on November 17, rescuing seven Indian fishermen from a perilous situation. The Pakistani Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) ship, PMS Nusrat, was forcibly detaining these fishermen, who were perilously close to being taken across national borders near India and Pakistan’s maritime boundary.
On November 17, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, the ICG Agrim received an emergency distress call—an urgent cry for help from an Indian fishing boat named Kalbhairav. This vessel was fishing near the no-fishing zone (NFZ) when it was intercepted by the Pakistani ship with intentions to apprehend the seven fishermen aboard and transport them to Pakistan.

Displaying remarkable agility, the ICG Agrim sped towards the PMS Nusrat, engaging in an exhilarating high-seas chase reminiscent of a cat-and-mouse game for two intense hours. Ultimately, after stern warnings and diplomatic negotiations, the Pakistani ship released the fishermen and their vessel, although the Kalbhairav was damaged and eventually sank.
Upon completion of this daring rescue mission, the ICG Agrim transported the fishermen back safely to Okha Port in Gujarat on November 18. Intelligence agencies, state police, and the Coast Guard are currently collaborating to interrogate the fishermen and prepare a comprehensive report to understand the cause of this maritime conflict.
