A significant disaster has occurred in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. In Mana village, a glacier collapse has led to severe devastation, trapping 47 workers beneath the snow. Out of the 57 workers caught in this disaster, 10 have been successfully rescued, and the search for the remaining 47 is ongoing. In the wake of the incident, the administration and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) team swiftly reached the site. Meanwhile, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Garhwal Scouts are actively involved in rescue operations.
It is reported that a large number of private contractor workers were present at the site during the incident. All workers were engaged under a contract with the BRO. As the avalanche struck, workers scrambled to evade its reach, with some managing to escape, while 57 found themselves trapped by the snow.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow through a tweet regarding the incident. He stated, 'Saddened to learn of the tragic news of workers being trapped due to an avalanche near Mana village in Chamoli district during BRO-conducted construction work. Relief and rescue operations are being conducted by ITBP, BRO, and other rescue teams. I pray to Lord Badrinath for the safety of all worker brothers.'
Notably, the weather has been quite adverse across the mountains over the last two days. Heavy rains have been reported in various parts of both Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In some places, rivers are swelling, while elsewhere, vehicles are being swept away in streams.

The intense rainfall has wreaked havoc in several areas of Himachal Pradesh. Disturbing images of destruction have emerged from Kullu district, where the torrential downpour has caused rivers and streams to swell significantly.
Today (February 28), more alarming images of devastation have surfaced from both Kullu and Mandi districts in Himachal Pradesh. A landslide in the Oat area of Mandi district has led to the closure of the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, while in Kullu, vehicles have been reported swept away by overflowing streams due to torrential rain. Given the weather conditions, the meteorological department has issued an Orange Alert in various parts of Himachal Pradesh.
