Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders Highlights, IPL 2025:
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed an electrifying showdown as Mumbai Indians (MI) squared off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match number 12. On March 31 (Monday), at the renowned Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians claimed victory by 8 wickets. They were tasked with chasing a target of 117 runs, which they accomplished with 43 balls to spare. Ashwini Kumar, the fast bowler making his IPL debut, emerged as the hero, capturing four wickets for Mumbai. Ryan Rickelton also showcased his formidable skills, remaining unbeaten with a half-century (62*).
Mumbai Indians' Maiden Victory...
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians were celebrating their first victory of the season. Previously, they had faced defeats against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Meanwhile, defending champions KKR had bounced back from a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with a commanding win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Yet, they had to endure their second loss of the season in this outing.
During the chase, the 'Impact Sub' Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided Mumbai Indians with a solid start. Together, they forged a formidable 46-run partnership for the first wicket in just 5.2 overs. Though Rohit appeared to be in form, he was unable to convert his strong start into a big score, getting caught by Harshit Rana off Andre Russell's delivery.
Rohit Sharma managed to score 13 runs off 12 balls, including a six. Following this, Ryan Rickelton kept Kolkata Knight Riders at bay and delivered a quick-fire fifty. The South African opener smashed an unbeaten 62 runs off 41 balls, laced with five boundaries and four towering sixes, while Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 27. Both wickets for KKR were claimed by the formidable Andre Russell.

Ashwini Kumar's Historic Feat... Russell-Rinku Stumble
Kolkata's team, put into bat first after losing the toss, crumbled to 116 runs in 16.2 overs. It was a dismal start for Kolkata Knight Riders as they lost four wickets within the powerplay. Left-arm pacer Trent Boult dismissed Sunil Narine (0) with a clean bowled, followed by Deepak Chahar sending wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock (1) back to the pavilion. Ashwini Kumar then, on his debut, had Ajinkya Rahane caught by Tilak Varma on his first delivery, while Deepak Chahar accounted for Venkatesh Iyer (3). At Venkatesh's dismissal, KKR staggered at 41 for 4.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi looked set to form, but a reckless shot off Hardik Pandya's delivery resulted in a catch to Naman Dheer. Raghuvanshi departed for 26 off 16 balls, having struck three fours and a six. Then, debutant Ashwini Kumar shattered Kolkata Knight Riders' lineup by dismissing Rinku Singh (17), 'Impact Sub' Manish Pandey (19), and Andre Russell (5). Harshit Rana was sent back by Vighnesh Puthur. Ramandeep Singh succumbed to Mitchell Santner for 22 runs.
For Mumbai Indians, Ashwini Kumar clinched four wickets for 24 runs, while Deepak Chahar claimed two scalps. Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Vighnesh Puthur, and Mitchell Santner each grabbed one wicket. Notably, Ashwini Kumar became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets on his IPL debut. The best bowling figures on an IPL debut remain with Alzarri Joseph, who claimed six wickets for just 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019 representing Mumbai Indians. Ashwini has thus joined the ranks as the sixth bowler taking four or more wickets on IPL debut.
