In the wake of violence during the immersion procession on October 13-14 in Bahraich, UP, the police today presented five suspects, Abdul Hameed, Rinku alias Sarfaraz, Faheem, Taleem, and Afzal, at the residence of CJM Pratibha Chaudhary in Judges Colony. From here, they were sent to jail for a 14-day judicial custody.
Meanwhile, peace seems to be returning to the city on the fifth day after the violence. Heavy police force was deployed in anticipation of the first Friday prayer post-violence at the main market Ghantaghar of City Kotwali. Police maintained strict vigilance at every major square and intersection. The Muslim community offered prayers peacefully at all major mosques in the city. During this time, DM Monika Rani, SP Vrinda Shukla, City Magistrate Shalini Prabhakar, and City Police Officer Ramesh Pandey continuously patrolled the city.

The police arrested five prime suspects the next evening, including Sarfaraz and Taleem, who encountered gunfire with police near a major canal on the Nanpara-Rupaidiha highway, under Nanpara Kotwali Police Station area. They were admitted to Bahraich Medical College. The other three suspects, Abdul Hameed, Faheem, and Afzal, were kept in police custody. After today's police remand proceedings, they have been sent to jail for a 14-day judicial custody.
Meanwhile, in the Bahraich violence case, Rukhsar, the sister of arrested suspect Mohammad Sarfaraz, admitted that her brother fired the shot that led to Ramgopal Mishra's death. Rukhsar stated that a large crowd was at their doorstep, and Sarfaraz fired in self-defense, accidentally hitting Ramgopal. No justification can be provided for taking a life, but an accident occurred. Sarfaraz acted in his defense, with no intention of homicide.
It is noteworthy that as soon as the news of Ramgopal's death spread, chaos erupted in Maharajganj town. Infuriated protesters vandalized vehicles and set them on fire, including the house of accused Abdul Hameed. The violence continued the next day, necessitating a large police presence in the district. CM Yogi took note of the situation. Currently, the situation is under control. More than 50 suspects have been apprehended thus far. Named suspects have been sent to jail.
