Back in 2000, with a mere six legislators, BJP began its journey. Fast forward to 2005, they had just two, and in 2009, only four legislators were on their bench. Today, they proudly claim 48 seats in Haryana—a landmark achievement that even eclipses their 2014 victory when they first stepped into power independently. Despite facing anti-incumbency, the ruling party maintained its governance and thwarted Congress's resurgence attempt.

Who Got How Many Seats?

The BJP has marked its best performance in the state with 48 seats, one more than in 2014. Congress has secured 37 seats, while INLD bagged two. Additionally, three independent candidates have tasted success as well. BJP contested 89 out of Haryana's 90 seats this time. They refrained from contesting the Sirsa seat, which was held by their ally Gopal Kanda, the incumbent MLA; however, Kanda was not successful in retaining his seat.

What Was The Journey Like?

The 2014 elections were the first instance where BJP contested all 90 seats on its own. By 2019, they had won 40 seats and formed the government in Haryana with support from JJP and some independent candidates. Enthused by their Lok Sabha performance in 2014, where they won seven out of eight contested seats, the BJP continued their winning spree—clinching 47 seats in 2014 and pushing up to 48 this year. Their previous best was in 1987, winning 16 out of 20 seats, led by Devi Lal under INLD's banner when Haryana became a separate state in 1966.

However, in 1991, BJP faltered again, grabbing only two seats, and managed 11 seats by 1996. Unlike the elections of 2019 and now, BJP hadn’t declared any chief ministerial candidate during the 2014 assembly elections; instead, they fought under collective leadership.

Before the 2014 assembly elections, BJP's then-ally Haryana Janhit Congress, led by Kuldeep Bishnoi, parted ways. BJP fortified its electoral prospects by covering all 90 assembly areas with four victory pledge tours. In 2022, Kuldeep Bishnoi switched from Congress to BJP. Haryana witnessed single-phase voting on October 5.

Expressing gratitude to the voters for BJP's victory, Haryana's Chief Minister Saini declared on Tuesday that the people have stamped the government's policies under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
