In a significant crackdown in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad) arrested Rashid Shah, a key member of the Changur gang in the unlawful conversion case. Rashid, belonging to Madhpur village in the Uttraula region, was instrumental in entrapping young Hindu girls and coercing their conversion. Shocking revelations have surfaced post Rashid's arrest, highlighting the mastermind efforts by Changur Baba, alias Jalaluddin, who orchestrated this network.
Engaging in conversions earned Rashid a commission of 10,000 INR, which he shared with his accomplices. Fixed commissions were paid with additional team funding. Rashid had been previously apprehended in Azamgarh, May 2023, on illegal conversion charges alongside 17 others.
Rashid operated under the directives of Changur Baba. Recently out on bail, he re-engaged in conversion activities. ATS has already detained Changur, his son Mehboob, Naveen alias Jamaluddin, and his wife Neetu alias Nasreen. Rashid's interrogation further revealed critical insights into the gang's operations. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding suspects.
Rashid Shah acknowledged during questioning that the network, besides sprawling across Uttar Pradesh districts, extended into other states. In May 2023, Rashid and 17 others were arrested in Azamgarh on similar charges but resumed activities post-bail.
Rashid Shah executed operations under instructions from Changur Baba. ATS had already apprehended Changur, his son Mehboob, Naveen alias Jamaluddin, and wife Neetu alias Nasreen. Rashid divulged significant operational and funding insights. The police continue pursuing other fugitives.
Foreign funds sustained Changur Baba and his gang’s lavish lifestyle. Showrooms, a palatial residence, Fortuners, and Creta SUVs were amassed through alleged funding from Dubai, UAE, and Nepal. Rashid Shah's arrest has empowered ATS to tighten the noose around the entire network, with an ongoing manhunt for other missing members.
