300 kg Emerald Hidden in Madagascar's Presidential Palace

Last month, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, the interim President who recently took power in Madagascar, revealed a captivating discovery. He showcased a 300 kg stone within the Presidential Palace (Ambohitsorohitra State Palace), adorned with a striking green emerald.

This deep black stone, interspersed with gleaming green crystal streaks, is rightly called 'Emerald in Matrix,' signifying the emerald formed naturally within the rock. Experts are yet to determine the size and purity of the emerald.

Standing by the stone, Colonel Michael Randrianirina declared it a national treasure. He confirmed it can be sold, with all proceeds directed to the government's treasury, ensuring a transparent process. He noted that this stone was discovered upon assuming power, yet details of its arrival at the palace are unknown.

Madagascar's Mines Minister, Karl Andriampirany, remarked that such a large emerald alongside natural rock is a rarity, a collector's dream. No such large emerald has been recorded in Madagascar previously.

While no official valuation exists yet, given pending examinations, large and pure emeralds fetch millions globally. Should this emerald prove of high quality, its value could reach several billion rupees.
