The Election Commission has announced the dates for the Bihar Assembly Elections, which are to be held in two phases this year. Voting will take place on the 6th and 11th of November, with results declared on November 14th. As soon as the election dates were announced, the political temperature in Bihar soared, sparking a fierce slogan war between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposing Grand Alliance.
Immediately following the announcement of the election schedule, Bihar's Deputy CM, Vijay Kumar Sinha, coined a slogan: '25 to 30, our two brothers Narendra and Nitish.' This response from BJP quota's Deputy CM in CM Nitish Kumar's Bihar Cabinet was swiftly countered by RJD leading the Grand Alliance under Lalu Prasad Yadav's command.
RJD leader Lalu Yadav took to the social media platform, X, posting: 'Six and Eleven, NDA Out of Eleven.' It's worth noting that before the slogan battle between Vijay Kumar Sinha and Lalu Yadav, JDU, led by CM Nitish Kumar, had come up with: 'Twenty-five to Thirty, Still Nitish.' The idea behind JDU's slogan was to signal Nitish Kumar's continued leadership post-elections.
Post-Chhath Election Dates
In a meeting with the Election Commission team, political parties including JDU and RJD requested scheduling elections post the Chhath Puja. The sun-worship festival, Chhath, is observed from October 25 to 28. The Election Commission duly set the election dates following this festival. The first phase will cover 71 assembly seats across 16 districts of Bihar, with voting on November 6. The remaining seats will see elections on November 11, with the counting of votes on November 14.
