Over four years have passed since the 2020 riots shook northeastern Delhi, and to this day, Shahrukh Pathan, accused in the violence, has not received any relief from the Delhi High Court. Despite filing for bail, the court, after hearing the case, refused to release him on bail. Notably, during these riots, Pathan was seen aiming a pistol at a Delhi Police constable.

Shahrukh Pathan faces charges for rioting, promoting hatred and enmity between different communities, as well as a slew of other violations. During the unrest, he pointed a gun at Head Constable Deepak Dahiya and is accused in two other cases, including an attempted murder charge involving Rohit Shukla. Currently, he remains lodged in Tihar Jail.

The riots that erupted in northeastern Delhi in February 2020 were sparked by clashes between supporters and opponents of the Citizenship Amendment Act. These riots tragically resulted in the loss of at least 53 lives. On February 24, 2020, during an anti-CAA protest in the Maujpur-Jafrabad area, Shahrukh Pathan menacingly pointed a gun at police Head Constable Deepak Dahiya, with images of the incident quickly spreading across social media platforms.

Bail Granted for Wedding Attendance

On a more personal note, a Delhi court allowed an accused under the UAPA concerning the Delhi riots a brief respite to attend his sister's wedding. The court granted interim bail for eight days, requiring a personal bond and surety of 20,000 rupees each.

The bail was granted after Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai reviewed the petition filed by Shadab Ahmed, accused under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Ahmed sought temporary bail to attend his sister's wedding in his native village in Uttar Pradesh, requesting 20 days for the occasion.

Arrest Details and Judicial Verdict

According to the court's order issued on October 18, the applicant had been arrested on May 20, 2020, and has since been under judicial custody. Despite filing previous petitions for regular and interim bail, both were denied. However, from October 29 to November 5, conditional bail was granted upon presenting a personal bond and sureties worth 20,000 rupees each.
