A 14-year-old boy from Kerala has made a remarkable recovery from Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (brain fever). Hailing from Kozhikode, this young boy is amongst the very few who have successfully fought off this rare disease. Statistics show that only 11 people globally have recovered from it, as the disease has a 97% fatality rate. Health Minister Veena George praised the entire medical team for their exemplary work that led to the boy's recovery.

The Boy Also Suffered from Seizures

Upon receiving notice about the Amoebic Meningoencephalitis case, the health department led by the minister convened a special meeting and issued precautionary measures. Based on symptoms, healthcare staff at the Meladi Primary Health Center suspected that the boy might have brain fever. The same day he contracted the fever, he also experienced a seizure.

Following this, he was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode. The health department procured the drug Miltefosine specifically for his treatment. After three weeks of intensive care, the boy recovered. Doctors stated that early diagnosis and timely treatment were crucial to his recovery.

Early Testing Plan Supported by the Institute of Advanced Virology

Upon receiving information about the rare Amoebic Encephalitis, a testing plan was promptly devised with support from the Institute of Advanced Virology.

Afterward, the medical team initiated treatment, and he recovered in about three weeks. The boy's parents expressed their profound gratitude to the doctors. They also commended the efforts of the health department and the state government.
